David was appointed Managing Director of Laurent Perrier in December 1999 and has been a Master of Wine since 1998.
David’s journey in the wine trade started in 1982 at Bordeaux Direct (now Laithwate’s Wine) / Sunday Times Wine Club. He joined Grants of St. James’s in 1984 where he performed a number of roles during the twelve years at the company including trade marketing and fine wine manager. Latterly he ran the Birmingham depot, selling and distributing the Matthew Clark Wholesale portfolio of drinks.
Joining Laurent-Perrier in 1996 as National Account Manager, he was responsible for developing the business for both On and Off-trade national accounts. Appointed Managing Director in December 1999, he has been responsible for the brand’s successful association with the Chelsea Flower Show culminating with the 2015 Laurent-Perrier Chatsworth Garden winning best in show. Despite the market corrections following the last decade’s Financial Crisis and more recently Covid-19, Laurent-Perrier has seen its sales volumes and market share grow steadily over the past 20 years.
A Master of Wine since 1998, David has a passionate interest in wine. Whilst his serious running days are behind him he remains a keen cyclist, completing LeJog in 2013 and cycling from Marlow to the Laurent-Perrier Cellars in 2019 both in aid of The Prince’s Trust. An accomplished ‘slot car’ racing driver and a lifelong supporter of Manchester United (though let’s not go there just now).
