The Lowest Carbon Collection

“I’m pleased to launch Mulberry’s first capsule collection of regenerative ‘farm to finished product’. The collection represents the future of the business as we continue to build a network of regenerative and organic farms to supply the hides to create our leather across the UK and Europe. This reinforces Mulberry’s bold commitment to the future, outlined in our Made to Last manifesto published earlier this year to mark our fiftieth anniversary.”

Thierry Andretta CEO, Mulberry

Walpole member Mulberry is proud to announce the launch of its new collection of bags created using the world’s lowest carbon leather and crafted in the brand’s carbon neutral Somerset factories. Produced in partnership with Muirhead, a member of the Scottish Leather Group, the limited-edition capsule features the Soft Small Amberley Satchel, an iconic design updated here with a holistic approach to sustainability.

In line with Mulberry’s Made to Last Manifesto, announced earlier this year, the collection is created in the UK with a pioneering hyper-local, hyper-transparent ‘farm to finished product’ supply chain model, marking a bold commitment to transparency and traceability. All the raw hides for this collection were sourced from within the UK and Ireland, tanned, treated and finished by Muirhead at their leather production site 15 miles outside of Glasgow, Scotland, and each bag from the collection is made by
craftspeople in Mulberry’s carbon neutral Somerset factories.

Carbon action and reduced environmental impact is fundamental to both Mulberry and Muirhead. Mulberry has committed to setting science-based targets which will push the business onto a pioneering pathway to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees. Muirhead produces the world’s lowest carbon intensity leather at 1.1kg of CO2 per hide, made possible by building close relationships with local farmers, utilising their pioneering thermal energy plant which generates heat from waste and by maximising water usage by filtering and recycling 40% of the wastewater back into leather production.

This partnership with Muirhead represents the future of Mulberry, laying out an ambitious commitment to transform the business to a regenerative and circular model, encompassing the entire supply chain, from field to wardrobe and establishing a blueprint which can be replicated with a network of trusted partners, underpinning their ambition to reaching Net Zero carbon emissions by 2035.

This capsule is the latest chapter in Mulberry Editions: a series of collections and innovative partnerships launched during Mulberry’s 50th anniversary. The Small Soft Amberley satchels are created using Hawthorn Heavy Grain leather and available to purchase in stores and at mulberry.com from the 22nd November in four colourways: Cornflower Blue, Coral Orange, Black and Charcoal.
